Sharing allows one account to access the backups of another account. Sharing can be one-way or it can be reciprocal. You may grant another account access to your backups but may not want or need access to their backups. That's one-way. You may grant access to each other's backups. That's two-way sharing. As a matter of fact, you can set up file sharing between any number of accounts.
1. How to let another account access your backups
- To enable another account to share your backups:
- Open the backup software on your computer.
- From the menu bar, select Options | File Sharing Permissions.
- In the Grant/Remove window, click Add.
- Enter the number of the other computer's account.
- Fill in any of the optional areas then click OK to return to the Grant/Remove window.
- Click OK to transmit the access rights that you just granted.
Note, in order for another account to download and decrypt your files, you must give them your encryption key and your password, if you have one. If you don't remember them, see Account Information.
2. How to access another account's backups
To access the backups of another account that has granted you permission:
- Open the backup software.
- Click the Retrieve View tab.
- On the blue menu, click 'Explore another account's files.
- Click the Update Account List button.
- Select an account from the list.
- Click 'Get latest list from the Backup Data Center.
Retrieve View displays the other accounts backups. Proceed with file selection and download just as you would if they were your own backups.
Note, the next time you open the backup software it will display your backups, not those of the other account. To revisit the other account, choose 'Explore another account's files' and proceed from there. It may not always be necessary to update the account list or to get the latest file list. If no new accounts have granted you access or if the account that you want hasn't backed up since you last downloaded their file list, you can skip these two operations. |
